Gambling Watch UK. Why do we need it?
Alarm is now being widely expressed about modern gambling’s dangers for individual, family and community health. The tide of thoughtless expansion of gambling is turning. There is now support for reform across the political spectrum. Things have changed since the Gambling Watch UK website was set up in 2012. Then there was scarcely any organisation, independent of Government or the gambling providing industry, that was speaking critically on the subject of gambling.
But there is a long way to go still. With the help of website development and maintenance firm West5Web, Gambling Watch UK is being relaunched today. It will continue to work with others to press for change. What is needed now is a fundamental rethinking of our basic approach to gambling regulation, including a new Gambling Act and a proper National Government Strategy. We need Government to face up to its responsibility and have a serious rethink about the proper place of gambling in national life.
